2000-2001 - What a Busy Year!
Last year was full of excitement. We kicked it all off at Carol Glotfelter’s house with our September Meeting. We were reacquainted, enjoyed delicious salads and made some chapter decisions.

During our annual Founders’ Day celebration at the Golden Lamb, we learned more about the Cardiac Care Grant from Barb Rinto from UC’s Women’s Health Department. Susan Barrick of the Foundation Board was on hand to present the Grant. We also took this opportunity to honor Carol Glotfelter’s dedicated service to our group by presenting the donations you made in her honor to Foundation.

We had a Candle Party fund-raiser in November at Katie Meyer’s home, and the event raised just over $200. In December, we celebrated the holidays at Erin Messersmith’s. We traveled to provide lunch for the Gamma Nus during recruitment in January. Then in February, the Ivy Connection gathered at TGI Friday’s for a nice chance to chat.

Speaking of Ivy Connection, they were busy traveling to see Gamma Nu as often as they could, and in April, they welcomed the graduating seniors into the ranks of alumnaehood.

Erin Messersmith served as a coordinator for Ivy Connection for the last year and a half. Due to a job change requiring her to travel, she has stepped down. Our thanks to Erin for her time and dedication! Thanks also to Kate O’Hara who will be continuing to plan Ivy Connection events.

Mary Ann Mangold organized our Flower Sale in May. We sold more than $120 in flowers. Many thanks to Mary Ann and all those who purchased flowers.

Our calendar is enclosed, and Katie Meyer, VP of Programming, has worked very hard to find the right combination of new and exciting events while keeping the traditional favorites. I look forward to seeing you soon!

AOE,
Carrie Fulton

End of Summer Family Cookout
A great opportunity for us to close out the summer will be on Sunday, August 26 at 4:00 p.m. Carol Glotfelter is opening her home to us and our families to catch up as we start the new year.

The Glotfelters will have horseshoes and volleyball for our families to enjoy, and they will be providing buns, meat and soft drinks. Please bring a side dish to share, and you are welcome to bring any other beverages you would like. You can RSVP by contacting Carol at glotfelter@fuse.net before Wednesday, August 22.

September Meeting
Why should you come to Katie Meyer’s for the meeting on September 19 at 7:00 p.m.? Of course to taste some great salads. After eating, we will have our only business meeting of the year covering things such as the future of the group, supporting Gamma Nu and updating the By-Laws.

This will be a great opportunity for you to help let us know what you are interested in from YOUR alumnae group. Be sure to RSVP by contacting Katie Meyer at meyerkate@aol.com by September 14.

Lunch Group
We are taking the Lunch Group on the road. We have decided to get together for lunch on a monthly basis in different locales enabling retirees, stay at home moms and women working outside of the home to participate.

Our first lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9 at Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in Kenwood. For more information, contact Carrie Fulton at fultoncs@yahoo.com.

Ivy Connection Update
The Ivy Connection continued it’s success last year through some great times with both alumnae members and collegians alike. We are looking forward to an exciting year with some great events.

First up is the Party In the Park on Wednesday, August 15 at 5:30 p.m. Take some time out from the dog days of summer to hear some bands with us. Next will be a trip up to Gamma Nu on Wednesday, October 3. We will be meeting at 4:45 p.m., but you are welcome to come up when you can and go to dinner with us after the meeting. On Thursday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m., we will be enjoying some delicious Italian food at the Macaroni Grill in Tri-County.

This group targets women who graduated in the last 10 years but all are welcome to join in the fun. For additional information, contact Kate O’Hara at oharake@yahoo.com.

Contribution Opportunities
Enclosed is a form for you to send back with your annual local dues. Please take the time to fill out the form which helps us to plan events as well as provides information to put on the roster. Your dues pay for delegates to convention, regional conference as well as newsletters and meeting needs. Your local dues may be paid any time before December 1.

Remember to pay your International dues. Information will be sent to you directly from the Executive Office. Please also consider making a contribution to the Alpha Phi Foundation. To see what EO and Foundation have been up to visit their web site at www.alphaphi.org.

International Executive Board Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the International Executive Board. Please contact Carrie Fulton at fultoncs@yahoo.com for more information.

Founders’ Day
Continuing our tradition, we will be celebrating Founders’ Day at the Golden Lamb on Saturday, October 21 with the Dayton Alums well as collegian representatives from Miami and UD. Drinks will be served starting at 11:00 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon.

After enjoying a lunch of chicken salad croissant, fruit, rolls and Golden Lamb Fruit Cobbler for dessert. The cost of lunch will be $16.50. Please plan to take some time to enjoy this special day with your sisters.

Book Discussion
Have you ever read a great book and wanted to discuss it with someone else? Have you ever wanted to get together and just talk about those things in the world that concern you? Then, join us on Tuesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Bronte Café in Joseph Beth Bookstore in Hyde Park.

We will be reading Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells. However you DON’T need to read the book to participate. The book is usually a starting point to bring about discussion. Of course you can either buy the book or get it at your local library.

Holiday Party with a Twist
We have always enjoyed our annual Holiday Party, and this year we are shaking things up a bit. Elizabeth Thornton has already agreed to host the event to be held on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00. We will also be having fun with ornaments, but this is where things change.

We are inviting you to bring an ornament you have made or purchased to donate to be auctioned off. The proceeds will go to our group helping us to send someone to convention. We will also be having the annual cookie exchange if you are able to bring some cookies to share.

News from Gamma Nu
Hi from the Gamma Nu chapter at Miami University. We had a very exciting year!!! Last fall we had an excellent turn out for Turn-On, raising thousands of dollars for the Oxford Counseling and Rape Crisis Center.

The most important part of the year was Recruitment 2001. We had an excellent turnout of women who joined our chapter. They are an amazing group of women, and we are looking forward to some great times ahead.

The seniors ended the year with the traditional alumni ceremony and many recent Miami graduates and alumni attended. We were very grateful to those in attendance. We hope that this year will be even better than the last and that we will be able to work with the Cincinnati chapter even more.

We would like to include our dues paying members on their alumnae e-mailing list. You will receive periodic updates via e-mail on activities that the collegians are involved in and opportunities to get involved if you wish. If you do not want to receive the e-mails all you will need to do is simply reply to sender in the first few e-mails, and you will be taken off the list.

Gamma Nu Advisors
Below is the list of women who have volunteered to be the Advisory Board for Gamma Nu. Your help is appreciated by alumnae and collegians alike:
Chapter Advisor: Karen Wannemacher, Bowling Green
Operations: Natalie Baird, Miami University
Development: Jennifer Mendelson,Case Western
Recruitment: Victoria Bolle, U. of the Pacific
Marketing: Carol Glotfelter, Indiana State University

Karen and Victoria are interested in using our years of experience to help enhance the chapter’s recruitment capabilities. If you are interested in helping, please contact Karen or Victoria.

Panhel Update
Christina Dennin is serving as the group’s president. Last year they gave scholarships of $300 each to Amie Wolfe of Pi Beta Phi of Miami and Georgina Ginn of Theta Phi Alpha of UC. You and your friends and family are invited to a fund-raiser at the Kiln on Monday, November 5, 2001 from 6 to 9 p.m. They need at least 20 people for this fund-raiser. It is $15 a person plus the cost of your piece of pottery.
