Thank You to Susan Barrick! Many of you had the opportunity to meet Susan Barrick, Alpha Phi Foundation Board Member, during our Founders Day Luncheon. Since the luncheon, she has made a contribution to Foundation in honor of our chapter. We have expressed our thanks to her for the kind gesture and are excited by her generosity. Regional ConferenceAs you may know, we are a part of the Upper Midwest Region of Alpha Phi, and our regional conference will be held February 9-11 in Cleveland. Our thanks to Kate OHara who will be representing us. She will be learning about new programming and fund raising ideas as well as sharing information on our more successful programs. Heart Ball 2001This year's American Heart Association's Heart Ball will be on Saturday, February 17 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. It's a fun filled evening of dinner and dancing with a large, diverse silent auction and some live auction items, too. The theme is "Doo Wop" complete with 1950's classic cars, period food and entertainment. This event raised over $250,000 last year for cardiac research. Tickets are $175 each, and $115 of that is tax deductible. Contact Carol Glotfelter, Mary Ellen Trunick or Melissa Cox if you need additional information or would like to attend! Silent ChapterSome of you may already know of the passing of Linda Morse Schmaltz in October. She was a graduate of DePauw University and an active member of our chapter in the late 60s and early 70s. Our sympathies and prayers are with her family. Ivy Connection UpdateIn the past few months, the Ivy Connection has enjoyed trips to visit the Gamma Nu chapter. One of the most fun was in November when we shared fond memories and advice with New Member Class. Our upcoming events include dinner at TGI Friday's by the Kenwood Mall on Thursday, February 8, at 6:30 p.m. It will be a good chance to relax with good friends and good food. Join us for Senior Ceremony at Gamma Nu on Wednesday, April 25, and welcome our new alumnae to life after college. We will meet at the Wendy's on Colerain Avenue and 275 at 4:30 p.m. If you cannot make this early time, please feel free to join us in Miami when you can make it. Dinner and a movie anyone? Meet us at the food court at the Kenwood Mall on Wednesday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. and spend time catching up with Phis before we watch a movie. Then on August 15 at 5:30 p.m., we will be returning to the Party in the Park - a cool way to spend a summer evening. The Ivy Connection is a group aimed at the interests of sisters who graduated in the past ten years. However, we enjoy having all area alumnae join us. If you have any questions, you can contact Kate O'Hara at oharake@yahoo.com or Erin Messersmith at erin.messersmith@uc.edu. November Fund RaiserEight sisters homes got more beautiful, and our checking account got $200 richer after a Candle Party at Katie Meyers home on November 13. This money will help pay for Regional Conference as well as help save money for future needs. Holiday GatheringThe holiday season is full of tradition, and this year we were able to continue an Alpha Phi tradition thanks to Erin Messersmith opening her home for our annual Holiday Gathering on December 7. Fourteen sisters gathered together to talk, share holiday memories, eat and exchange ornaments and cookies. Recruitment Pep Talk!Rush, now called Recruitment, is a time of sisterhood, songs and stress. We went to Gamma Nu to show our support and provide lunch on January 6. A record 10 alumnae members were able to attend and share some of our favorite memories of this special time in our Phi life.
